Jasmine who? It had always been Genie

Aladdin looked at the huge Genie in front of him. It was love at first sight. The beautiful blue skin, the tantalising horn shaped beard, the smooth voice, Aladdin couldn’t find anything he didn’t love about this ethereal being in front of him.

The Genie looked down at Aladdin, and couldn’t help thinking that Aladdin was the most gorgeous human to have ever called upon him.

“I know this might be premature,” Aladdin breathed, “But I think I am in love with you.”

The Genie felt tears fill his eyes, and he wiped them away with his faux hands.

“I am but a spirit, so I am yet to know what love feels like, but if it is as magnificent as people say it is, then what else can I call what I am feeling right now?” He sobbed, and Aladdin nodded solemnly, Abu looking over his shoulder with new found intrigue.

“I thought I was in love with the princess.” Aladdin said, and then shook his head. “I couldn’t have been more wrong. That fleeting infatuation is nothing compared to what I feel when I lay my eyes on your blue mist of a body. If only…” Aladdin paused, and looked up at the genie. “If only you were a human.”

Genie looked down at Aladdin, and felt warmth expand in his chest like a slow growing fungus. “You have 3 wishes. Use them wisely.”

“I wish… you were a human.” Aladdin said, eyes full of hope.

“Your wish is my command.” The genie bowed, and his trailing end of smoke slowly morphed into two legs, and his body changed to the proportions of a human. “Aladdin, we must have been lovers in the past to already have such a strong connection.”

“So true.” Aladdin nodded. “Listen, we should like, get married.”

“But Aladdin, we can’t. You know the laws.” Genie sighed.

“I will not have anything in this world stop me from marrying you.” Aladdin said gravely. “My second wish is for the two of us to get married.”

“Oh Aladdin, you are so romantic.” Genie wiped a tear from his eye. “If that is what you wish, I shall grant it.”

The genie whooshed his hand, and a second later they were… standing in the same spot.

“I have created a world where anyone can marry anyone.” The genie smiled, and Aladdin looked at his ring finger, encircled by a breath taking blue ring.

“I want to be with you forever.” Aladdin smiled, and Genie nodded.

“Nothing will ever tear us apart.”

Abu, from the side, stared at them, and then a shiny object caught the side of his eye. It was a beautiful gemstone, a ruby, which seemed to be calling Abu’s name.

His monkey paw reached for the ruby.

Genie, who saw it from his peripheral vision, felt a cry rip out of him.

“ABU, NOOOOOOOOOO-“

But Abu was a monkey, and when a monkey wants something, a monkey gets it.

Abu’s fingers wrapped around the red jewel, and Aladdin felt his knees give away, having turned to jelly in horror.

As soon as Abu’s fingers touched the ruby, and entire cave started shaking. The roof gave away, speeding towards the ground.

Genie, who would usually be able to save them, realised too late that he was a human now, and because humans are more fragile than a paper plate, he was crushed by the falling debris in 2 seconds flat.

They all died, but at least, Aladdin and Genie will always be together, not even parting at death, and Abu also with them because that’s the way it is.
